MY MOTTO AS A LEADER
People's Representative
As a 7-time MLA and having been a cabinet minister several times, I have established a robust way of representing the people of Karnataka and my constituency by engaging with the people and understanding their needs.
Grassroot Oriented
As an MLA and a minister, I have always looked at myself as a functionary of the state machinery and the administration. I am a firm believer of grassroot leadership and my engagement begins with the most basic micromanagement within my constituency and whichever department is further bestowed upon me.
Statesman
Having been groomed with a very simple upbringing, as a student of a neighbourhood government school and amongst the people of Shivajinagar and Bengaluru, I was aware of ground-realities very early in life. As a son of the soil, I started engaging in public life at the age of 13, starting as a volunteer in Bowring Hospital, which I have now revamped.
my career
As an MLA
I got elected as an MLA and sent to Vidhan Soudha for the first time in the year 1985 and I have had unequivocal support from the people of Bengaluru ever since. I have served as an MLA of Shivajinagar for a record 5-times and as an MLA of Jayamahal for a record 2 times, rendering me as the only MLA of the constituency (Jayamahal) that once existed.
As a Minister
I have handled several large departments in capacity of a Cabinet Rank Minister in the State of Karnataka. The ministerial berths bestowed upon me in the past have been numerous, I have been the Home Minister, Bangalore City Development Minister, Urban Development Minister, Infratructure Minister, Hajj and Wakf Minister, Small Scale Industries Minister, Tourism Minister etc.
Youth Leadership
A graduate of Commerce, I was the General Secretary, All India National Students Union, and served as a student leader during my college days. I have also served in several Youth Organisations and Educational Institutions like the International Youth Festivals held between 1978 and 1985 at Havana, Belgrade and Moscow, respectively.
